This year's kid friendly Newport RI winter festival is focused on the family. So many events are for adults and children to enjoy together and with the www.ivylodge.com being one of the few kid friendly bed and breakfast, now is the time to bring the family and expose everyone to the culture, beauty and all the fun events taking place in Newport RI.

With over one hundred and fifty individual events, this Festival has become "New England's largest winter extravaganza." Alive with sparkle and excitement, the Winter Festival offers a unique winter experience combining food, music, and entertainment, with fun for all ages. Sand sculptures, a Chili Cook-Off, city-wide Scavenger Hunt, and an Ice Sculpting Competition, a Children's Fair, and a Pizza Cook-Off are just some of the many colorful and exciting events that will captivate you and your family. The Winter Festival features an exciting Concert Series with a diverse selection of musical performances by BeatleMania, Northeast Navy Show Band, and Tish Adams.

The Newport Winter Festival is proud to have been the recipients of the 2004 Governor's State Tourism Award. In the past the Festival has been voted "Best Off-Season Event" by Newport Life Magazine's "Best of Newport" Awards. The Winter Festival was also chosen by the American Bus Association as one of the Top 100 Events in North America, and named the 34th out of the Top 250 Events in the Country by Events Business News! Whether you seek dining, dancing, or ice carving...The Newport Winter Festival has it all!

All Fired Up Pottery 452 Thames St. Watch pottery being made in the studio on location all week and enjoy a 15% discount of all purchases.

Children's Art Contest By Team One Newport and Patagonia on Thames Street. Vote for your favorite picture at Team One Newport & Patagonia on Thames Street. Final day to vote is Saturday, February 21st. Winners will be announced on Sunday, February 22nd, on our website http://www.teamonenewport.com/, and on the Winter Festival's website www.NewportWinterFestival.com, and in both stores.

Create A Card Contest! Good Shepherd Gift Shop, 164 Broadway. 4 different age categories, 5-8yrs, 9-12yrs, 13-19yrs and Adult. Try your hand at creating a Sympathy, Birthday, Congratulations, Anniversary or Wedding card. Card must be 5 1/2 x 8", no copyrighted images. Include text and design. One winner will be selected on Feb. 22nd 3pm at the shop from each category and receive 75% off any item in the shop up to $100 value. Free with button. Cards become property of the Good Shepherd. The Beach Bounce Party & Play Center at Easton's Beach Bring the whole family down to Easton's Beach for the new children's party and play center inside the Rotunda at Easton's Beach. For ages 2-10. $2 off with button. Open Mon. & Tues. 12pm-6pm; Wed.-Sun. 10am-6pm. (401) 845-5810.

Newport Equestrian Academy Beach Trail Rides 287 Third Beach Rd., Middletown. 2 hour group ride $85/$75 per person w/button. 11/2-hour group ride $75/ $65 per person w/button. Daily 10:00am, 12:00 and 2:00pm. Must call for reservations. 848-5440.

Newport Seal Safari Enjoy a 1 hour narrated and guided seal tour of Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor aboard the Patriot. Leaving from the Oldport Marine next to the Mooring Restaurant. Be ready to depart 15 minutes prior to departure time and bundle up. Feb. 14 - 17 (1:30-2:30pm), Feb. 18 - 20 (11-12:00pm), Feb 21 - 22 (12-1pm). $16 Adult, $14 children (under 8). $2 off w/button (401) 847-9109.

Seal Watches Join the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation and Save The Bay aboard M/V Aletta Morris on a 1-hr. cruise around Rose Island to observe the seals that haul-out near her rocky shores. Bring binoculars if you have them and dress warmly. Boat is partially enclosed, but can be chilly. All programs are weather-dependent. Reservations strongly recommended to ensure your spot.
